It's 25 years plus since I started playing with these two freaks. That would be Freak 1: Blake Brooker and Freak 2: Michael Green - these two dudes in the posted photos. My brothers in crime so to speak. Normally when we tour it's the full Ensemble posse hitting the road together but In this case we honed it down to just the main freaks which naturally includes me!
Our pals, Theatre Labor, in Bielefeld invited us to their festival. This is the company who dazzled us at last January's Rodeo with their two killer shows: BODY FRAGMENTS and ABSURDESQUE. Our plan was that I would do my solo show Sign Language which Michael would stage manage and he would perform The Whaler. Blake would just be there to look good... as usual... kidding! Blake is a wildly effective director. And I hope he reads this.
So we packed up our kit and caboodle and travelled 'lite' to Deutchland. (The Whaler features a completely naked Michael and I spend quite a bit of time in a thong in Sign Lingo so both shows fit into two suitcases). If the feed-back we got was any indication, then I can safely say we rocked it with our performances.
Then it was off to Britain for Blake and I. Michael had a few days in Dublin with Theatre Pan Pan then he joined us in South Hampton to grab a look at The Spymonkeys' latest epic Moby Dick. They were so funny Michael wept like a baby and I peed in my seat - almost!
Way too short a visit with those crazed comedy geniuses before we trained back up to London and met three excellent gentlemen who work with Brian Eno. Mr. Eno was a little too busy to join us. Dominic, Nick and Ray were lovely hosts and we spent close to three hours in their beautiful old building beside the British Museum. The whole whirl-wind trip finished up with an excellent pint in one of London's grooviest old pubs: the Fitzroy and dinner with our Canadian ex-pat chum, Heather Elton.
Included in my thrills were a visit to Frank Gehry's MARTa museum in Herford Germany. And the Anish Kapoor show at the RAC in London.
