Renting the theatre
The Big Secret Theatre is a flexible black box space, which is usually configured to seat 165 people, with a maximum capacity of 195. The space contains a bar and small lobby area, which can be configured in a number of ways. Fully equipped with professional lighting and sound equipment, and dressing rooms that can comfortably accommodate six, the Big Secret Theatre has hosted international companies and independent artists alike. Paid underground and street parking is available near the Big Secret Theatre – including directly under Arts Commons.

Rental Rates
Any rental that brings the general public into the Big Secret Theatre is required to provide proof of public liability insurance in the amount of $5,000,000 (five million dollars) for the duration of the rental period. The expected cost for insurance is around $200-$500 depending on the length of the rental, and is the renting company's responsibility to pay.
There are several online options available for short term event liability. We recommend Duuo Event Insurance, who additionally provide a discount to renters of the Big Secret Theatre. For more information on Duuo Event Insurance, please contact our Company Manager.
The answer is a bit complicated but in general, yes. By entering into a rental contract for the Big Secret Theatre, the renter agrees to abide by the policies of Arts Commons, which includes the use of the Arts Commons ticketing system. Renters are prohibited from using a third-party ticketing system, such as Eventbrite, Showpass, etc. but are allowed to sell tickets directly through their own website using PayPal or a similar sales app. Physical tickets would then be printed and provided by Arts Commons.
Details and more important information on ticketing would be provided in detail in the rental contract. The renting company will be responsible for the the arrangement of all ticket details with the Arts Commons Box Office; One Yellow Rabbit will not arrange this on the company's behalf.
By entering into a rental contract for the Big Secret Theatre, the renter agrees to abide by the policies of Arts Commons, which includes that all events that include the general public must employ an Arts Commons Front of House Manager. The renting company is also responsible for providing a minimum of three ushers for the event, whether provided by the company, or hired through Arts Commons.

Rental Rates
In general, the physical box office will not be available for use by renting companies, however, we will provide table in front of the theatre entrance for ticket-pick ups and sales prior to performances. It is the responsibility of the renting company to provide staff, whether paid or volunteer, to man this table.
We do not promote rental performances on the One Yellow Rabbit website unless they are produced, in whole or in part, by One Yellow Rabbit. We can, however, list a rental production on the website with a link that goes to the event listing that the renting company provides if they wish to do so. The event will also be listed on the Arts Commons website.
The Arts Commons Box Office will display show posters at the Box Office, as well as include the poster in digital displays throughout the building. A case will be reserved right outside the doors of The Big Secret Theatre for the show in residence. We may also be able to display posters in our own display cases, provided they are not already in use for our own internal purposes. These requests will be handled on a case to case basis depending on availability.
No. As we are not the producer's of the work, we ask that our logo not be included in any show's materials, promotional or otherwise.
Catering is allowed and should be chosen and arranged by the renting company. Please note, we can provide access to a small servery, which includes an ice machine, a small sink, and a dishwasher. There are also two small fridges available to renters. There are no standard sized fridges available to caterers.
Unfortunately, no. The Big Secret Theatre is only licensed for liquor provided through our own bar service. Please note all bar service contracts are separate from theatre rental contracts. All bar sales remain the property of One Yellow Rabbit.

Rental Rates
One Yellow Rabbit is licensed through SOCAN and Re:Sound to provide the rights for the use of "background" music to be played before, after, and during the intermission of a performance. For music uses such as within the body of a production, additional fees will be charged to the renting company and will be submitted to SOCAN and/or Re:Sound on the company's behalf. The renting company may also choose to report and pay these fees directly to SOCAN / Re:Sound.
Any alterations to the physical space, including, painting or placement of risers, must be approved in advance by the Company Manager as part of contract negotiations. Additional labour charges will apply for both the alteration and the restoration of the space.
Arrangements for any additional equipment not supplied by One Yellow Rabbit must be made by the renting company. Our in house technician can help to identify what additional equipment might be necessary, make suggestions on where to rent, and can provide support with the installation. Sourcing, transporting to the venue, and returning the equipment is the responsibility of the renting company.
