Algorithm: A Wax Museum Experience
Centre Court at Arts Commons (second floor next to the Big Secret Theatre)
Featuring CYPT youth performers.
Are you looking carefully? Or are you the one being looked at? Calgary Young People’s Theatre brings an immersive performance installation featuring an ensemble of youth performers exploring what exactly it is that youth get up to when being watched… and what happens when you look away. This experience will rove the Rodeo, popping up where you least expect them. Inspired by the popular children’s game “wax museum.” Directed by Noah Boyle.

AWAKE AND STILL DROWNING
Centre Court at Arts Commons (second floor next to the Big Secret Theatre)
AWAKE AND STILL DROWNING is a 15-minute shared group experience about the day Nova Scotia becomes an island. It is a cautionary fable told through a combination of virtual landscape and live performance that signifies the high cost of human migration when the exploited ocean takes back what is hers.
The immersive theatrical experience splits the audience into two groups: those in the first group become the protagonists, a flock of little white seabirds. This group performs a simple, guided walk along the isthmus as directed by a smartphone, which depicts the rising ocean and disappearing shoreline. The second group waits in line, witnessing the flock, unaware of the crisis unfolding inside the experience. They then join the dance, becoming part of the flock (and the catastrophe). The cycle continues until nobody is left, or we are forced to leave the venue.
